Imagining through Drawing- Enhancing Resilience in Design Prozesses?

Preprint, 2025
Info

The two creatives and teachers are combining their developed creative (designing) methods for making the imagined ‘mental imagery’ within us visible, tangible, understandable. For example, in still life drawing, forming a ‘visible surface’ on a two-dimensional level, means creating structure, tactility brings something in memory and is playing with your Material Mind (Wachs, 2007). The associative memory is referencing to ‘mapping the world’ (Grønfeldt Winther, 2020) and is essentially build up in early days of children’s imprint. Sketching in the sand brings imagination and a resilient embodied experience together for different media (Wachs, 2024). The Imagination games (Maranca, 2025) open up again a flow conducted drawing space, having in mind the trainability of imagination. ‚Imagining Through Drawing‘ is an offer to recover and enhance resilient designing. It is relevant for the research in the fields of embodied cognition AND tacit knowledge.
